This exhibition, planned in conjunction with the Henry Moore Institute in the UK, introduces work by Toen Morikawa, Kotaro Takamura, Chozan Sato, Heihachi Hashimoto, and Shichiro Yokota to explore, through ten sculptures with natural objects as their subject matter, the distinctive characteristics of modern Japanese sculpture. The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to explore these fascinating works while confirming the significance of modern Japanese sculpture, which has established its own position in the history of sculpture from the Meiji period on.

The exhibition is part of an international research initiative, the Modern Japanese Sculpture Network, which is a partnership between the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London (UCL), The Henry Moore Institute, Leeds and Musashino Art University, Tokyo, supported by a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, UK (AHRC).
